American Ramp Systems: The Unexpected Benefit of Helping Others By: Jonathan Bille |
| |
Making money is a necessity, but making money while serving the community can totally change your outlook and how you feel about the world and your place in it. That is the story of Gregg Stone, owner and operator of American Ramp Systems located at 9352 Wortendyke Rd. Batavia, NY 14020.
Gregg’s story begins about ten years ago when he was laid off from his job as a union cable contractor. The lay off gave Gregg an unexpected chance to reflect on his life and his career as a cable contractor. At that time he realized that, although his job enabled him to pay the bills, it wasn’t a fulfilling job and he didn’t feel like he was making a difference. It was then he realized that he wanted to start his own business.
A friend recommended he take a look at American Ramp Systems and consider opening up a local franchise. Gregg was quickly impressed with the company and their product and shortly after opened the Batavia office of American Ramp Systems and began servicing the area.
And then something pretty incredible happened. Gregg realized that his business was about more than just supplying ramps; it was about improving the lives of the elderly and disabled and providing them with a way to independently enter and exit their home. It was a life changing moment for Gregg and is really illustrated by his service to Veterans.
“Veterans have fought for our country and deserve the utmost respect,” said Stone. “They have seen so much and have so many stories to tell; throughout the installation process, I like nothing more than to visit with them and listen to what they have to say. Just as I am changing their lives by installing ramps, they are changing my life by sharing their experiences.”
Since 2004, Gregg has installed over 200 Ramp systems throughout the Buffalo, Rochester and Western Finger Lakes region. But for Gregg, each ramp represents more than another job, it’s a story and a life that has been changed. For Gregg, each ramp is another chance to make a difference in the life of someone in need from the community. But perhaps even more importantly, each ramp is another chance to help himself through helping others.
