The New York City condo currently rented by Jay-Z is up for sale. The sky high four bedroom, five and one-half bath home on the 76th floor of the Time Warner Center is under contract for $27 million. Michael Hirtenstein, the owner, lives in nearby Park Imperial, only a few floors above Sean 'Diddy' Combs. He paid $15.7 million for the pad in December 2004. Rapper and clothing mogul Jay-Z has been renting the 4,800 square foot unit since September 2005. It features one of the few private terraces in the building, along with a library, formal dining room, 12 foot ceilings and views of girlfriend Beyonce Knowles' apartment across the park at One Beacon Court.
Jay-Z has already purchased a penthouse on Hudson Street, which he is currently renovating.
Born Shawn Corey Carter, the successful New York native is known for his free styling abilities, flow and easy blend of street and popular hip hop. Jay-Z had become one of the most respected rappers in the music industry and is admired for his ability to craft lyrics from memory, without the use of pen and paper.
He has won and been nominated for numerous music awards and his philanthropic activity revolves around raising an awareness of and combating global water shortage. Jay-Z partnered with the United Nations and MTV to produce a documentary entitled Diary of Jay-Z: Water for Life, with its first airing in November 2006.
