Home of the Stars - Jack LaLanne A Strong House |
| |
The home of fitness guru Jack LaLanne appears to be on the market. The Palm Springs mid-century estate near the Palm Springs Airport has an asking price in the high $600,000s. It features a large swimming pool and sits on an oversized lot with an expansive outdoor patio area and park like grounds with mature landscaping.
LaLanne is renowned worldwide for his success as a body builder and has won numerous awards, including the Horatio Alger Award from the Association of Distinguished American. He has been referred to as the "father of fitness" and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Born Francois Henri LaLanne in San Francisco, California, the son of French immigrants was addicted to sugar and junk foods as a child. He was troubled and prone to rages. A speech by Paul Bragg on health and nutrition led LaLanne to focus on diet and exercise. He studied Henry Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body and concentrated on bodybuilding and weightlifting which, in the 1930s, was uncommon.
During an interview on NBC's Today Show, LaLanne told Katie Couric his two simple rules of nutrition. "If man made it, don't eat it." "If it tastes good, spit it out." And LaLanne added, "I cannot afford to die, it will ruin my image."
