What's Hot in Weddings
The Wedding Gown Alteration Scam

Gown2Enough women have now told me the same story about what happened when they purchased their wedding gown that a definite pattern has emerged. The image that has emerged is one of women being taking advantage of so that the wedding gown seller can make a few extra bucks.

What seems to be happening is when women come into the wedding gown shop and find a dress that they like; they are convinced by the proprietors to order a gown that is too big. Here are some of the common reasons given for this:

· Wedding gown sizes are larger than normal clothes. So if you’re a size 6 you should order a size 8 or perhaps even a size 10.

· What about your weight? Can you be sure that you will be the same weight on your wedding day as you are today?

Here’s what you should be considering when confronted with these reason why you should order a larger gown:

· How can formal wear sizes be bigger when the dress you are trying on fits you? If you are a size 6, and you try on a size 6 wedding gown, how can it be that the wedding dress you plan to order should be bigger?

· With your weight; do you really believe that you will go up one to two dress sizes between the time you try on your dress and when you get married? That’s a lot of Bon Bons.

Here’s what’s happening: a dress that cost $400.00 that is ordered two sizes too larger will require at least $400.00 of alterations, which turns your $400.00 dress into $800.00.

But they seem to get almost all the women that come into their show with the same scam. How? Simple. The dress in non-returnable. So if it comes in too small, too bad. You bought it and it’s yours.

If you’re planning your wedding on a tight budget, you want to be aware of this. You may need to keep shopping until you’re able to buy something right off the rack, if you’re going to avoid the alterations scam!
