May: Tantric |

May 2008: Tantric www.myspace.com/tantric
Now, Tantric has been around for a long time as a band, but the 2008 version of this band might just be the best yet. And that is why May seems to be gearing up as one of the more productive months in this bands history.
History is something this band surely has.
Tantric was rolling along, with gold records and number one singles, until they went in to record their third album, then everything sort of just fell apart so to speak. Their record label, Maverick Records imploded, and with them took the record the band just recorded. The label wasn’t the only thing imploding as everyone aside from singer Hugo Ferriera decided to leave the band. He was an island, but wasn’t ready to give up.
“It felt very discouraging and I didn’t know if I was going to be able to pull myself out of it, said Ferriera. “At the same time I wasn’t really ready to give up on it because I have invested my whole life into it.”
He enlisted the help one of his friends, Kevin Miller (ex-Fuel) on drums and then rounded out the band from there. They moved on and signed with Silent Majority Group. Then concentrated on recording what would be in essence the fourth Tantric record, The End Begins.
The End Begins is by far the best Tantric record to date, as the band went back to what brought them to the dance, which is spotlighting Ferriera’s smoky, raspy voice, and providing big rock hooks from song to song. The first single off the record, Down and Out, is one of the better singles this band has ever released, and is a good showcase of the idea that Tantric are staying true to their original sound while still attempting to bring something new into the mix. They use a lot of violin throughout The End Begins and that classic sound brings a special element in the end.
And of course you know the band is out on the road currently on the Silent Majority Group’s Not So Silent Tour, alongside Framing Hanley and current Tantric drummer Kevin Miller’s other band, Fosterchild. This is a fantastic tour for anyone who is a fan of big time rock music or metal infused rock. These bands offer both of those things.
With a new record that is shaping up to be their best yet, and a rock tour that has them flanked with good acts, Tantric is going to have an excellent month of May.
