Neil Diamond Earns First Chart-Topping Album
Neil Diamond's logging two career firsts. The veteran singer-songwriter's latest effort, "Home Before Dark," is entering the Billboard 200 album chart at number one, which makes the disc not only Diamond's first chart-topping debut, but his first album ever to reach the top spot. The CD earned the position on first-week sales of 145-thousand-840 units. Diamond's no stranger to the top tier of the chart. "Home Before Dark" is his 15th disc to peak in the top ten on the Billboard listing. But he worked hard for this latest accomplishment, actively promoting the album before a wide-ranging audience. Recent TV appearances have included "American Idol" and "Today," and he taped a performance for ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" that's scheduled to air on May 23rd. He also played a special free MySpace Secret Show at the New York club the Bitter End the day after the album hit stores. Diamond will continue to support "Home Before Dark" on the road. He'll launch a European tour later this month, and begin a North American trek in St. Paul, Minnesota on July 19th.
