Turtles Flo And Eddie Sue Over Sampling Agreement
The Turtles frontmen Flo and Eddie are taking action against Capitol Records over a sampling deal. According to court documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday and obtained by TMZ.com, the pair are upset over the way they believe the company has stretched an agreement allowing rapper Ice Cube to incorporate The Turtles' "Buzzsaw" into the track "Jackin' for Beats." Flo and Eddie claim that over the years Capitol has gone beyond the parameters of the 1990 deal for the company's own financial gain, while not accounting for or paying them any royalties. The veteran rockers are seeking a monetary judgement to total between 25-thousand and 70-thousand-dollars plus court costs and any additional damages the court might award. "Buzzsaw" is from the 1968 album "The Turtles Present the Battle of the Bands." "Jackin' for Beats" first surfaced on Ice Cube's 1990 EP "Kill at Will."
