Michael Jackson's "Thriller" Selected To Library Of Congress Recording Registry
Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album is taking its place among some of America's most time-honored recordings. Jackson's hit 1982 album has been selected to be preserved in the National Recording Registry of the U.S. Library of Congress. According to the Library of Congress, the album, along with 24 other select recordings, was chosen due to its "cultural, historical and aesthetic significance." "Thriller" is widely regarded as one of the best-selling albums of all time. The new selections are part of the 2007 registry group, which includes other famous recordings such as Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman," Herbie Hancock's "Headhunters," Harry S. Truman's speech at the 1948 Democratic National Convention, and the first ever trans-Atlantic broadcast produced in 1925. The new batch of recordings bring the total number of recordings in the registry to 250. To be considered for the National Recording Registry, recordings must be at least ten-years-old.
