New Report Says Kids' Cereal Has Too Much Sugar
(Cleveland, OH) -- For many kids, cold cereal is a quick and nutritious breakfast choice. Or is it? A new report from a U.S. consumer group found a bowl of some cereals is about as nutritious as a glazed doughnut. Cleveland Clinic nutritionist Laura Jeffers says too much sugar is a bad idea for breakfast.
Jeffers says parents need to pay close attention to what's in the cereal box. Look for cereals that are high in fiber. Many cereal makers have lowered the amount of sugar and increased the amount of fiber. Parents also need to pay attention to how much cereal kids pour in the bowl. Kids tend to put nearly double the amount recommended for a healthy serving. |
