Santana Healing, Considering The Future
Carlos Santana has been facing his demons, and contemplating an end to his music career. The veteran rocker tells "Rolling Stone" that he's still hurting from his divorce last year, but now his life is "wide open," with, quote, "no obstructions, no guilt, or shame, or condemnation." Along with coming to terms with the end of his 34-year marriage, Santana notes he's begun to heal from the trauma of having been molested as a child, which he says he's accomplished through forgiveness. The guitarist adds that as his spirituality continues to grow in importance to him, he wants to share it with others beyond his music. He explains that with his fall tour he's hoping to move fans in a profound way, and, quote, "make people's hair stand on end, and tears start coming down, and they don't even know why." Santana also reveals that in seven years -- when he's 67 -- he wants to retire from performing. He says his plan is to settle in Maui and launch a church of his own where he can, quote, "be a minister, like Little Richard." But for now Santana will be preaching with his guitar from the stage, doing so in Santa Barbara, California tonight.
