Chinese Hospital Bosses Canned In Dead Baby Scandal
(Beijing) -- Nine Chinese hospital bosses have been fired for covering up the deaths of eight newborn babies who died from hospital-acquired infections in early September. Among those fired were the president and vice president of Number One Hospital, which is one of the biggest health facilities in northwest China. Hospital officials apparently compensated the parents of the infants but did not report their deaths to the proper health authorities. China's officials state news agency says the doctors who treated the newborns have been suspended from work during the investigation. The nation's latest health scandal sparked public outrage when it came to light September 25th. On September 27th, the hospital website announced the facility would undergo a huge safety overhaul. China's health authorities are blaming the deaths and the cover up on poor management and an irresponsible medical staff.
