Expert: Slightly Overweight Women At Risk For Heart Problems
(Undated) -- A heart expert wants all women who have a little extra in their mid-section to undergo annual heart risk assessments. Johns Hopkins cardiologist Dr. Erin Michos says every woman with a waistline that measures more than 35 inches needs to have the annual checkup. She says a third of even mildly obese and overweight women underestimate their lifetime risk for heart attack, stroke and chest pain. Michos says the recommendations are based on a national, multi-city screening for heart disease risk factors in nearly nine-thousand women between the ages of 35 and 63. |
