Study: Fans, Open Windows Reduce SIDS Risk
(Chicago, IL) -- Using a fan or opening a window could further cut the danger of sudden infant death syndrome. A new study show infants who slept in a bedroom with a fan had a reduced SIDS risk by 72-percent compared to those sleeping in rooms without a fan. The researchers found opening a window additionally reduced the risk by another 36-percent but said the most effective method to reduce SIDS is still putting infants on their backs to sleep. Using a firm mattresses, avoiding soft bedding and preventing overheating are also effective methods. Their study was published in the "Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine."
