Report: Non-Traditional Pets Dangerous To Small Children
(Undated) -- A hamster might not be the best first pet for a child. Parents are being warned about the dangers of non-traditional pets to young children. The American Academy of Pediatrics cautions that pets such as rodents, snakes, monkeys and illegal exotic animals pose health risks to kids and people with immune deficiencies. A policy statement from the group says such animals can spread disease and infections, including salmonella. The group also cites injuries and allergies as dangers that come along with the non-traditional pets. The study and statement are published in "Pediatrics."<
