Ailing Meat Loaf Attends "Q" Awards; Gilmour, Mellencamp, Campbell Also Honored
Meat Loaf is sick. The classic rocker attended the annual "Q" Awards in London Monday night to accept the Classic Song honors for his hit "Bat Out Of Hell." But the BBC Online says Meat appeared to be ill and had a cut eye, and he needed assistance going to and from the stage. The singer admitted that something was wrong, noting that he was experiencing bouts of vertigo and adding that he would be seeing a doctor. This is the latest in a string of health scares for the 60-year-old star. Back in 2003, he underwent surgery for an irregular heartbeat after he collapsed on stage. Last year he cancelled concerts after discovering a cyst on his vocal chord, and some remarks he made during what turned out to be the last show of that tour led to rumors that he would soon retire. Pink Floyd's David Gilmour was another honoree, earning the nod for Outstanding Contribution to Music. He dedicated his award to the late Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright, who passed away last month. In accepting his trophy, Gilmour asked the audience to join him in a toast to his former band mate, and noted, quote, "There's all sorts of music that I will not be able to play again without him. That's a source of sadness for me." Other veteran stars receiving acknowledgement included John Mellencamp, who captured Classic Songwriter, and Glen Campbell, who was named a "Q" Legend.
