Clay Aiken Stands By Decision To Come Out
Clay Aiken has no regrets about coming out of the closet last month, despite a mixed reaction from fans. "People" magazine reports the "American Idol" runner-up would have liked to have kept his public and private lives separate, but says, quote, "living as myself without discussing my sexuality publicly would have been impossible." On his website, clayonline.com, Aiken wrote in response to some fans' negative reaction, noting that he feels he had the right to discuss his personal life when he was good and ready to. In late September, one fan wrote on claymaniacs.com that they were disappointed Aiken wasn't straightforward about his sexuality from the get-go. Another fan wrote on "Clay Board" that the day the singer came out was, quote, "gut wrenching for The ClayNation." The blogger went on to say he feels Aiken has now joined the ranks of Michael Jackson. Aiken maintains on his website that he never meant to lie to anyone and doesn't want fans to end up hating him.
