Chinese Officials: Nearly 11-Thousand Hospitalized Over Tainted Milk
(Beijing) -- The Chinese Ministry of Health says nearly 11-thousand infants and children have been hospitalized due to toxic milk and baby formula. The figure is the latest update since Beijing reported almost 13-thousand children were being treated for kidney problems caused by consuming milk tainted with melamine. The chemical is currently at the center of the country's latest food safety scare. While new cases are being reported, the ministry also claims no more infants have died from the contaminated milk, leaving the death toll at four. It added eight of the thousands of children still in the hospital were in serious condition.
