Survey: Women Bear Brunt Of Financial Concerns
(New York, NY) -- People throughout the U.S. are rubbing their foreheads due to the economic crisis, but it's women who are bearing the brunt of the financial worries. That's according to findings in the 2008 Stress In America survey by the American Psychological Association. Female members of the Baby Boom Generation aged 44-62 as well as women aged 63 and older are most likely to list the economy as a significant stress factor. In general, the survey found women rank financial worries above personal health concerns. Younger women are not unaffected by economic challenges, with Generation Xers aged 30-43 as the group of females most concerned about money matters. Women 18-29 years-old, or Millennials, were determined to be most worried over housing costs. Among that group, 75 percent report housing costs as a source of stress.
Other findings in the survey reveal almost half of Americans are worried about their ability to support their families. Eight out of ten respondents say a significant cause of their stress is due to the economy, an increase of 66 percent from April's figures. The 2008 Stress In America data was compiled between June 23rd and August 13th. |
