Study: Children Given Drugs, No Therapy
(Undated) -- A new study has found at least half of the children taking antidepressants in the U.S. aren't being provided with any therapy. "USA Today" is reporting on the study that tracked insurance claims for antidepressants from a database of six-point-eight-million children and teens from 2002 to 2006. Researchers discovered in the six months after getting at least one new prescription for antidepressants, only about 40-percent of children also had an insurance claim for one or more therapy sessions. That, even though the FDA has applied the strongest possible safety warning on antidepressants saying they could increase suicidal behavior in people age 24 and under. |
