John Lennon Birthday Honors On TV, DVD
The late John Lennon will be remembered on TV today, in honor of what would have been the former Beatle's 68th birthday. VH1 Classic will feature the legendary rocker's 1970 solo effort "Plastic Ono Band" on "Classic Albums." In addition, the station will present the 2000 biopic "In His Life: The John Lennon Story," which focuses on the eight years leading up to Beatlemania and the 2006 documentary "The U.S. vs. John Lennon," which addresses his political activities in the early '70s. Ovation will air the 1988 biography "Imagine: John Lennon." ETV is offering "20 Most Horrifying Hollywood Murders," which includes Lennon's fatal 1980 shooting.
Meanwhile, the 2001 Lennon tribute "Come Together: A Night For John Lennon's Words & Music" is coming to DVD. The concert salute, which was taped just a few weeks after the September 11th terrorists attacks, features a variety of artists performing solo Lennon and Beatles songs, and reflecting on his message of peace. Billy Preston, Lou Reed, Cyndi Lauper, Dave Stewart, and Lennon's son Sean are among those featured on the 90-minute DVD, which will arrive in stores on November 4th.
