Senate Committee Unveils Mandatory Plan For Healthcare In America
(Washington, DC) -- The Senate Finance Committee says the American healthcare system is a huge drag on the economy and is proposing a broad reform plan that would require everyone to get insurance. Chairman Max Baucus proposed a new insurance exchange under which millions of uninsured Americans and businesses could obtain affordable healthcare. Under the proposed plan, subsidies would be available for those who otherwise could not afford insurance. Baucus said he would like President-elect Barack Obama and Congress to quickly pass legislation in the first half of 2009. The proposal is similar to the plan Obama outlined during his campaign. The main difference is Baucus would eventually require everyone to have health insurance while Obama's plan would make healthcare more affordable, but not mandatory.
