Baylor Study Shows Cherries May Help Relieve Arthritis Pain
(Dallas, TX) -- A preliminary study conducted at the Baylor Medical Center of Dallas shows that cherries may be able to help relieve pain associated with arthritis. Dr. John Cush of the Baylor Research Institute says five out of six patients in the study experienced a noticeable level of relief from arthritis pain while taking capsules containing extract of cherries. He said it has a lot of the same properties as other common anti-inflammatory medicines, including naproxen.
Prior to using the cherry extract, patient Kim Adair said her arthritis pain ranked a seven or eight on a scale of ten. Three months later, Adair had no pain at all. She added, quote, "I'm stress-free and pain-free, I'm very happy." Cush said overall, five out of every six patients did very well in the study. Baylor is in the process of setting up a new, wider cherry study to confirm the results. |
