Rite Aid Expands Discount Drug Plan
(Chicago, IL) -- About 100 new drugs have been added to the list of medications that are part of Rite Aid's low-cost generic pharmaceutical plan. The program has no annual fee and has been in place nationwide since the end of September. Shoppers pay eight-dollars-99-cents for a 30-day supply, or 15-dollars-99-cents for a 90-day supply of generic drugs. Some of the drugs under the expanded plan encompass pediatric antibiotics, such as augmentin, as well as cough and cold products and dermatological treatments. Under the plan with Rite Aid, generic medications not on the list and branded drugs are sold at a 20-percent discount. Discount retailer Wal-Mart began a four-dollar monthly generic prescription plan two years ago. Others that have followed suit are drug store chains Walgreen and CVS.
