Gary Glitter Cavern Club Brick Controversy
Gary Glitter's brick will remain on the Cavern Club "Wall of Fame" in Liverpool, England. But the "Liverpool Daily Post" reports that owners of the famed venue are coming under fire for their decision. Local Parliament members are calling on the club to remove Glitter's brick from the wall and destroy it, because people no longer associate the '70s glam rocker's name with music but with his convictions on child pornography and molestation charges. Cavern Club spokesman Bill Heckle notes they removed all Gary Glitter photographs and memorabilia from the club, calling it "the right thing to do." But he says the "Wall of Fame" is different. He explains that it contains the names of all the artists who played at the Cavern Club between the years 1957 and 1973, and Glitter was one of those performers -- a fact they cannot change. Heckle adds, quote, "We made a conscious decision to leave the Gary Glitter brick where it is as we see the wall as more like an historical document than a tourist attraction."
