Paul McCartney Wants Rare Beatles Experimental Track Released
Paul McCartney says he thinks The Beatles song "Carnival of Light" should see the light of day. Speaking on BBC Radio 4's "Front Row," he said the band recorded the little-known free-form piece in 1967 for an electronic music festival after he'd been asked for a contribution. McCartney recalls telling the rest of the group to, quote, "wander around all the stuff, bang it, shout, play it, it doesn't need to make any sense. Hit a drum then wander on to the piano, hit a few notes, just wander around." He notes that afterward they put some echo on the track, adding that it's, quote, "very free." The legendary rocker says "Carnival" was never released because his band mates thought it was too, quote, "adventurous." While McCartney explains that he lobbied to have the song included on The Beatles' "Anthology" series, arguing that it would, quote, "show we were working with really avant-garde stuff," he was overruled by the others working on the project.
