Elton John Weighs In On Obama's Chief Of Staff Pick
Elton John says he likes President-elect Barack Obama's choice of Rahm Emanuel as chief of staff. At the opening of "Billy Elliot," John's latest musical to hit the Broadway stage, the "Rocket Man" told the "New York Daily News'" "Full Disclosure" column, quote, "The fact that Rahm was a dancer will serve him well." He added, quote, "It could be time for a dancer to take the helm in politics. This is a time of change in America. There is a zeitgeist, and we have hit it at the right time." As a kid, Emanuel studied ballet until he started college. "Billy Elliot" tells the story of a working class English boy who goes against his family to become a ballet dancer. The show began its run at Broadway's Imperial Theater Thursday to rave reviews. It's Elton's fourth show to make it to the Great White Way, following the hits "The Lion King" and "Aida" and the not-so-successful "Lestat." |
