Pop, Rock And Hip Hop Sensations Say Goodbye To "TRL"
Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus and Kid Rock are just a few big music celebs who flocked to the Big Apple Sunday night for the MTV "Total Request Live" farewell party. Veteran "TRL" veejay Carson Daly acted as a co-host for the show, taking viewers on a trip through the best moments during "TRL's" ten year run. Drummer Travis Barker provided a big moment, making his first appearance on TV since surviving a September plane crash that killed four others. Barker, who appeared via satellite, was asked about how it felt to get back behind the drums after the incident. MTV's celebration kicked off with a performance from Beyonce. Fall Out Boy also took to the stage minus bassist Pete Wentz who remained in California with his very pregnant wife, Ashlee Simpson. Other performers included the Backstreet Boys and a special collaboration from hip-hop stars Nelly, Snoop Dogg and Ludacris. Kid Rock joined the party armed with a drink and cigar. He told Carson Daly that, now the show's finally over, no one can tell him not to smoke on set. He went on to praise "TRL" for being a primary outlet for his music. Some other celebrities mingling backstage and chatting with the veejays included Taylor Swift, Hilary Duff, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Hilarie Burton and Samuel L. Jackson. "TRL's" final show featured a countdown of the ten songs that best chronicled the show's ten-year run. Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time" took the stop spot. "TRL" will now be taken over by a similar show, "Feedback New MTV." MTV officials say the newer show, known as "FNMTV," is drawing in more viewers and music labels than the ten-year-old "TRL."
