Tom Jones Tackles Songwriting For Upcoming Album
Tom Jones is doing something for his new album that he's never done before -- write songs. The veteran singer tells the BBC that he was encouraged to try his hand at penning songs when he started work on "24 Hours," because he just wasn't receiving material he liked. Jones admits he, quote, "needed a songwriter to put them into words," but says the songs contain his ideas. He describes the sound of the disc as "retro," explaining that he wanted to capture "that same feeling" of his mid '60s releases, such as "It's Not Unusual," "What's New Pussycat," and "Delilah." But Jones insists it's "still modern." The Welsh crooner notes that Amy Winehouse has been helping to revive that sound. He calls it "refreshing," and adds, quote, "It gives you confidence to go ahead and do it." "24 Hours" is Jones' first new collection of new studio material in 15 years. It's slated to hit stores November 25th. |
