Study: Broccoli Can Lower Risk Of Lung Cancer In Smokers
(Washington, DC) -- Eating broccoli can help reduce the risk of getting lung cancer in smokers. A new study suggests cruciferous vegetables provide a protective benefit, especially in former smokers. One researcher said people who quit smoking will quote, "definitely benefit more" from eating vegetables. A 20-percent to 55-percent reduction in lung cancer was found within smokers, depending on the type of vegetable eaten and the smoking duration and intensity. While the scientists said the findings are not significant enough for a public recommendation, the study is evidence that indicates cruciferous vegetables play a role in cancer prevention. |
