Study: Ginkgo Supplements Don't Prevent Alzheimer's Disease
(Undated) -- Herbal supplement Ginkgo biloba is popularly prescribed to prevent Alzheimer's disease in healthy elderly people, but new research suggests it doesn't have an effect. The study involved over three thousand people over the age of 75 in the U.S. who were taking the supplements over a six-year period. Half of the subjects took two 120 milligram doses of ginkgo while the other half were given a placebo. Researchers concluded those who took the supplements were no more or less likely to develop Alzheimer's or any other type of dementia. The study is published in the "Journal of the American Medical Association." |
