Study: African Americans Cancer Risk Higher With Identical Treatment
(Undated) -- Researchers believe biological or genetic factors could be the reason why African-Americans who receive treatment for breast, ovarian and prostate cancers die sooner than members of other races who receive the same treatment. The study by a Southwest Onocology Group will be published online July 7th in the "Journal of the National Cancer." It found African-Americans faced a 61-percent higher risk of ovarian cancer and a 21-percent higher risk for prostate cancer. The research shows no statistical change between races for treatment of other cancers like lymphoma, leukemia, colon and lung cancers. Nearly 20-thousand patient records were analized to come up with the results.
