Jewel Working To "Give A Drop" To Africa
Jewel is taking her Project Clean Water efforts to Africa. The singer's charity is teaming up with The Voss Foundation and Virgin Unite for the "Give A Drop" campaign, which will assist with efforts to bring potable water to Sub-Saharan Africa. Jewel says it's a cause that means a great deal to her. She notes she knows firsthand how important it is to have clean drinking water, explaining, quote, "When I was homeless, I became ill and couldn't afford to buy the bottled water I needed for my sick kidneys. I realized then that it was hard to get clean drinking water in the United States, and discovered it was a huge problem globally." The initial "Give A Drop" project involves creating five safe and hygenic wells in the Pel village of Dogon, Mali. More information on "Give A Drop" is available online at www.giveadrop.com. |
