Child Abuse Group Wants The Who Banned From Super Bowl 44 Halftime Show
Child advocacy groups are stepping up their opposition to the NFL's plans to have The Who perform during Super Bowl 44's Halftime Show this February. Pompano Beach-based Child Abuse Watch says that Who guitarist Pete Townshend shouldn't get an invite to perform. Their complaints are based on Townshend's 2003 arrest in England for allegedly viewing child pornography. In response to an earlier compliant, the organization received a letter from NFL Vice President Joe Browne stating that Townshend was arrested on a "technical offense" and that the rocker was never criminally charged. Browne added that Townshend accepted a "caution" from police that expired last spring. Browne also mentioned The Who's years of charitable contributions and its Double O foundation.
On Thanksgiving day 2009, the NFL confirmed The Who as its Halftime act after weeks of media speculation that the Brit rockers would get the gig. Miami, Florida's Land Shark Stadium will play host to Super Bowl 44 on February 7th, 2010. |
