Secretary Sebelius: Health Insurance Companies Not Answering Questions
(Washington, DC) -- Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says the Obama administration is not getting good answers out of health insurance companies on costs. In an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press," she said a Goldman Sachs analyst says market competition for insurance is decreasing around the country. Sebelius said she met last week with the five largest insurance company CEOs about bringing down costs and said they did not, quote, "get very good answers." She said the companies have failed to justify rate increases which are ahead of medical trends. Sebelius said she was told the rate hikes are "all about cost" and the companies are, quote, "just passing along costs but that's not what their profit statements say." She said when the votes are held will be up to leaders in Congress, but said American people are "desperate for something to happen." |
