Democrats: Healthcare Bill To Cost $940 Billion
(Washington, DC) -- Democratic lawmakers say the sweeping healthcare overhaul bill under consideration in Congress will cost 940-billion dollars over ten years. They also say the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office will report that the final bill will cut the deficit by 130-billion dollars over ten years and by more than one trillion dollars in the decade after that. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi remarked that it took some time to tweak the bill to hit the budgetary targets laid out by President Obama, but she's very pleased with the results. The final vote on the measure is expected to take place on Sunday. Democrats say they think they'll have the 216 votes in the House to get it passed. Republicans are vowing a united defense. |
