Boston's Scholz Launches Libel Suit Against Paper
Boston guitarist Tom Scholz is going after a city newspaper for libel. "The Boston Globe" reports that Scholz is waging a suit against "The Boston Herald." The legal action states that the "Herald's" "Inside Track" column connected the suicide of Boston frontman Brad Delp three years ago to Schloz by way of comments attributed to Delp's ex-wife, Micki. Scholz asserts that the attributions to Micki Delp were, quote, "false and fabricated." Howard Cooper -- attorney for Scholz -- commented, quote, "We have filed this complaint in an effort to correct the very substantial defamation by the 'Boston Herald' and its reporters of Tom Scholz at the time when his former Boston bandmate took his own life. It is unfortunate that some chose that tragic occasion to sensationalize a false story about Mr. Scholz." Brad Delp died on March 9, 2007 at age 55, of carbon monoxide poisoning after inhaling smoke from two charcoal grills he lit inside his sealed bathroom. The singer left behind a suicide note describing himself as a "lonely soul."
