West Nile Signs Noted In Four Indiana Counties
(Indianapolis, IN) -- The first signs of West Nile Virus are starting to pop up in four Indiana counties. State health officials say mosquitoes in Allen, Hamilton, Marion and Montgomery Counties have tested positive for the virus, and the number of counties where it's found is expected to rise. Last year, West Nile was found in mosquitoes in 24 counties in the state. Dr. Jennifer House of the Indiana Department of Health recommends people stay inside during the peak mosquito biting times from dusk to dawn, use insect repellent and wear long-sleeved shirts and pants when outside whenever possible. While West Nile typically is mild, people over 50-years-old are at greater risk for serious illness and even death from the virus. |
